Meet Dr. Marks
My new practice, Crossroads Pediatric Dentistry, is devoted solely to treating children and adolescents. By employing the most modern equipment such as digital radiology, computer-assisted records, and procedures employing the newest materials and techniques, our caring and highly qualified staff will provide your child with the fine dental care that he or she deserves in a fun environment.
| Parents want their child cared for by a highly qualified staff, and I'd like to tell you a little about myself — a born and raised "Baltimorean." After earning my B.A. (Bachelor of Arts) degree at McDaniel College, I graduated from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, where I am proud to say I earned the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. The University of Maryland Dental School is the direct descendant of the world's first dental college, and is rated by many to be the top dental school in the United States. I was admitted to the prestigious postgraduate Pediatric Dental Program at Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry where I earned two postgraduate degrees in Pediatric Dentistry. I was awarded a C.A.G.S. (Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study), and an M.Sc.D. (Master of Science in Dentistry) after completing my thesis on child behavior, which was later published in the ASDC Journal of Dentistry for Children (1978 Jul-Aug:45 (4):306-9) as "The Genesis of Fear and Anxiety in Young Dental Patients." Following my training at Boston University, I served for three years as the chief of the Pediatric Dental Service, 90th Medical Detachment (Dental Service), 5th General Hospital, in Stuttgart, Germany, as a Major in the United States Army Dental Corps. Active military duty overseas increased my awareness of the many sacrifices and earnest dedication of my fellow Americans in the service of their country and was a real personal and professional growth experience. Of the thousands of children whom I cared for overseas, the courage, persistence, and dedication of their parents, serving in the military, was a source of great inspiration to me. I am humbled and fulfilled by the privilege to have served with them. Following my honorable discharge from the US Army, I established my pediatric dental practice in Eldersburg, Maryland. I became Board Certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry by successfully completing a series of rigorous examinations over several years. As a result of my philosophy of honoring each patient with a gentle and humanistic approach, a full-service dental group evolved around my pediatric dental practice. In 2005, I transferred ownership of that practice to a larger dental group during a 3-year transitional period. I am forever grateful for the devoted professional staff and the patient relationships developed during those years. Teaching pediatric dentistry in the dental residency programs at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore and Johns Hopkins Hospital of Baltimore, both of which I remain affiliated with today, was an enriching learning experience for me. I have also taught in the pediatric dentistry department of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. My hat is off to all of the teachers, professors, counselors, and educators who shared so much knowledge and guidance over the years with us. I continue to find the trust and respect of the children that I treat, and of their parents, to be a shared honor, a true exercise in humility, and a remarkably rewarding experience.
